At Least 11 Suspected Spies Arrested in India for Alleged Links to Pakistan

In recent days, Indian authorities have arrested at least 11 individuals suspected of spying for Pakistan. These arrests took place across several states, including Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, amid rising tensions between the two countries.

Two Arrested in Punjab for Leaking Military Secrets

On Monday, the Punjab Police arrested two men accused of sharing sensitive military information with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. The men, identified as Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh, were caught in Gurdaspur.

Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, revealed that the suspects were involved in leaking classified details about Operation Sindoor, including troop movements and key strategic sites in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

A forensic check of their mobile phones confirmed the espionage activities. Police recovered three mobile phones and eight live cartridges (.30 bore) from them. A case has been filed under the Official Secrets Act at the Dorangala police station.

Details from Police and Officials

DIG Border Range, Satinder Singh, stated that the two arrested men were working as Pakistani spies. They received ₹1 lakh transferred to their accounts from the ISI after being activated following the Pahalgam attack.

Both suspects are young, aged between 19 and 20, and reside in Gurdaspur.

Arrest of Suspected ISI Agent in Uttar Pradesh

On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man named Shahzad from Rampur, suspected of acting as an ISI agent. He was caught based on intelligence about his involvement in cross-border smuggling and spying activities.

Shahzad is alleged to have passed national security information to his handlers and traveled to Pakistan multiple times. He was reportedly smuggling items such as cosmetics, clothes, and spices across the border.

He has been booked under relevant sections relating to espionage.

Rising Arrests Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

These arrests come as part of a broader crackdown on suspected espionage amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. India recently accused Pakistan of supporting the Pahalgam terror attack and launched Operation Sindoor to target terror bases in Pakistan.

So far, at least four arrests have been made in Haryana, five in Punjab, and two in Uttar Pradesh in connection with spying activities.
