UP ED Raids Monad University and Saraswati Medical College in Fake Degree Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at 16 locations across Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The raids target a money laundering network linked to fake degrees. Key locations include Monad University in Hapur and Saraswati Medical College in Unnao.


Vijender Singh Named Main Accused

The primary accused, Vijender Singh, is a former BSP candidate jailed under judicial custody. Singh had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Bijnor, finishing third with 2.18 lakh votes, while RLD candidate Chandan Chauhan won.

Officials said Singh allegedly ran a fake degree racket to launder money through educational institutions.


Details of the ED Raids

The ED searched multiple locations, including:

  • Monad University, Hapur – main campus

  • Saraswati Medical College, Unnao

  • Other premises linked to co-accused, many of whom are already arrested and chargesheeted

The searches are conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to trace illicit financial transactions and recover illegal funds generated through the scam.


Investigation in Progress

The ED confirmed that the probe is ongoing. Authorities will likely conduct more raids and arrests as they uncover the full network.

Officials emphasized the importance of holding all parties accountable and preventing further misuse of educational institutions.
