Uttar Pradesh Faces Deadly Floods and Rain-Related Tragedies

Over the past 24 hours, at least 12 people have lost their lives due to flooding, lightning strikes, drowning, and snake bites across various districts in Uttar Pradesh. Continuous heavy rainfall has caused major rivers to swell, leading to widespread flooding in 17 districts.

Floodwaters have submerged 37 tehsils and 402 villages, impacting more than 84,000 people. The flooding has damaged 343 houses and submerged over 4,015 hectares of farmland.


Government Response and Relief Efforts

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed officials to accelerate rescue and relief operations. Various ministers are actively overseeing the efforts in their respective districts.

Key relief operations include:

  • Distribution of relief materials to nearly 48,000 people
  • Relocation of 2,759 cattle to safer areas
  • Deployment of 439 boats and motorboats for supply distribution
  • Setup of 29 community kitchens providing food to flood victims
  • Distribution of over 6,500 food packets and 76,600 lunch packets
  • Provision of 500 quintals of fodder for cattle
  • Distribution of 129,571 chlorine tablets and 37,089 ORS packets to prevent waterborne diseases
  • Operation of 905 flood shelters, housing more than 11,200 displaced individuals
  • Deployment of 757 health teams conducting medical checkups
  • Establishment of 1,193 flood monitoring posts

River Levels and Flood Alerts

According to the UP Irrigation and Water Resources Department:

  • Ganga River is above the danger mark in Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur, and Ballia
  • Yamuna River is flowing at danger level in Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Banda, and Prayagraj
  • Betwa River is above danger mark in Hamirpur
  • Chambhal River near UP-Rajasthan border is at critical levels
  • Sharda River is close to danger mark in Lakhimpur Kheri
  • Ghaghra River is near danger level in Barabanki and Ayodhya

Team-11: Ministerial Task Force on Ground

To supervise relief work, the Chief Minister formed an 11-member ministerial team, Team-11, deployed across flood-affected zones:

  • Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ (Industrial Development Minister) – Prayagraj
  • Jaiveer Singh (Tourism Minister) – Agra

  • Pratibha Shukla (MoS Women Welfare) – Auraiya

  • Ajeet Pal (MoS Science and Technology) – Fatehpur
